Öland is an island in Baltic Sea, and it is the second largest island. It is spelt as Øland in Nordic countries or as Oland, internationally (o without diaresis). The sparsely populated island is the location for Borgholm Castle, and for Solliden Palance the summer residence of Swedish monarchy. The striking geographical feature of the island is the Great Alvar – a limestone plain rich in orchids and biodiversity.
