Gothenburg is gearing up for the year’s biggest cultural festival beginning from Tuesday, 6th August to Sunday, 11 August 2019. Most of the events are free for the residents of the 400-year-old city, and also those who visit Gothenburg as tourists or visitors.
During the week, the whole city will buzz with activities for children and family, and residents and visitors to experience in a wide range of about 400 programmes and activities at various locations in the city. The categories under the cultural festival include music, graffiti, design and handicraft, literature, market, film and photo, art and architecture among others. Göteborgs Stad (City of Gothenburg) has restricted the sound and music players at the events not to exceed 97 decibels.
“With more than 1 million visitors Gothenburg Culture Festival is one of Scandinavia’s biggest cultural festivals. During the festival that takes place August 6-11, the streets of Gothenburg are transformed into festival stages where the visitors free of charge can enjoy a vast range of cultural experiences: opera, art, music, street performances, craft work, theatre, literature and film. Next to gastronomic culture from all over the world you can find internationally renowned musical acts as well as local bands.
“This year the festival has the theme Voice & Music, which will be highly visible through the collaboration with European Choir Games – one of the largest choir festivals in Europe, that will be held in Gothenburg August 3-10.
“Gothenburg Culture Festival works for sustainability in three dimensions: ecological, social and financial. The festival meets the criteria for Fairtrade City Göteborg and all food vendors at the festival meet high environmental requirements. All electricity used at the festival comes from renewable sources.
“Gothenburg Culture Festival 2019 is produced by Göteborg & Co with support from the City of Gothenburg and the Trade and Industry Group at Göteborg & Co. Göteborg & Co is a municipal company of the City of Gothenburg. Gothenburg Culture Festival also receives financial support from its partners, and the program is presented in collaboration with the art and culture community of Gothenburg and the region of West Sweden,” say the organizers.
MOVIES IN THE OPEN AIR:
Gothenburg Film Festival is also organizing a free-for-all movies to watch on two evenings on 14th and 15th August 2019 at the Garden Society of Gothenburg (Trädgårdsföreningen) located in the heart of the city. There will be giant screen in the open air by the Palm House in the garden.
August 14, 2019 at 20:30: A Star Is Born by Bradley Cooper, and the pre-film will be ‘My burden is shown’ by Niki Lindroth von Bahr.
August 15, 2019 at 20:30: The Favorite by Yorgos Lanthimos, and the pre-film will be this year’s Startsladden winner Ingen Lyssnar av (Nobody listens to) Elin Övergaard.
