The annual music festival WAY OUT WEST 2019 concluded on Saturday, 10 August 2019. Irrespective of the rainy weather, thousands of music fans and film buffs made their presence at Slottsskogen the venue for the festival. Solange was the last singer to perform at Flamingo, and she attracted a huge audience and encouraged them to sing along with her for some of the songs. Solange Piaget Knowles, mononymously known as Solange, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. A precocious musician, she released her first studio album Solo Star at the age of 16. STORMZY, who performed at Azalea before Solange, enthused the crowds: Hej Gothenburg…! Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. professionally known as Stormzy is a British rapper and singer.
STAY OUT WEST, which is part of WAY OUT WEST’s different venues across Gothenburg for musical gigs, saw packed crowds especially at Pustervik. Makaya McCraven, Kokoroko and Durand Jones & The Indications were the last performers in the wee hours at Pustervik.
INTERACTIVE ART INSTALLATION:
One of the spectacular attractions at the music festival was an art installation between the two venues Flamingo and Azalea at Slottsskogen. ‘Vingen’ by Wingårdhs was an art installation made ‘with the help of waste materials from the textile industry’. Camila, one of the attendants to the music festival told www.gothenburg-400.com that the art installation was inviting. She said, “It feels homey, and cosy.” Frederik, another music fan, said, when you enter into art installation ‘you do not know where you are, and it has nice touch’. The interactive art installation was built ‘from more than 60 kilometres of fabric strips’ and ‘using the elements of nature combined with the festival visitors’ joy for discovery – a spatial hideout.

The organizers of WAY OUT WEST have announced next year’s dates for the musical event: 13, 14, 15 August 2020.
WAY OUT WEST’s film festival has also emerged as the third largest film festival in Sweden. Along with the movie premiers, prominent movie makers and artists attend festival. On the first day of the festival, the entire crew of Koko-di Koko-da were there.
