IS THERE A HYPHEN IN SWEDISH LANGUAGE?
HYPHEN & DASH
Hyphen’s importance is growing. One of the reasons for its importance is the changes in society: people are having double-barrelled surnames (and in some cases, forenames, too: Anna-Maria or Ann-Sofie).
The punctuation marks called hyphen and dash have their distinct functions and they are not interchangeable.
In Swedish language’s punctuation system, there is a hyphen (bindestreck) and a dash (tankstreck) but their usage in text is sparse. But the growing influence and usage of hyphens and dashes is evident in newspapers, and you can see that in the three images of this article.
